Traces 3

Recently, I have been developing my duo with bass player Paul Jefferies (see below) into a trio with the addition of Simon Price on the drums. In August 2022 we recorded a 3 track video demo which you can watch here

Although there is currently no cross over of material, I see this trio as a small group expression of some of the same thoughts and musical ideas which led to the creation of my 9-piece group (currently in rehearsal), hence the names.

Traces EP

In July 2019, I recorded a set of my original compositions with double bass player Paul Jefferies. The resulting EP is available on Bandcamp. These very personal pieces were inspired by a desire to write something with an earthier, simpler sound than other things I had been working on at the time. There are another 4/5 pieces from these sessions which are yet to be recorded, but I am hoping to bring this music to a live setting soon.

This project takes in a number of influences. There is the Bill Frisell / Thomas Morgan duo which uses the same instrumentation and was one of the inspirations behind starting this in the first place. However, the music I have written for us diverges from the Frisell duo in a number of ways. The Americana and jazz sound are there, but there is also more of a funk influence, as well as others such as Arabic maqam music, and British folk; taking a cue from the great Lammas.
