Ink To String - Book for teaching & learning music reading for guitarists

ink to string cover.jpg

As a teacher I felt there was a gap in the market for books teaching guitarists to read notation. There are many such books aimed at classical students, and a number of good method books which can be used for this purpose. But for non-classical students who did not require a method book, most notation reading books were aimed at intermediate to advance students wishing to improve their sight-reading; there was not a great deal available for the beginner, electric guitar student who wanted to learn standard notation alongside TAB based study.

Ink to String is a set of pieces with backing tracks which gradually increase in difficulty, adding the notes of another string after each four songs. The backing tracks are provided with a ‘melody’ version which includes the students’ part, and a ‘backing track’ version which is without. Accompanying these is reference material which reminds the student of notes and rhythms learnt. This is not a method book but, rather, a folio of material for use in lessons with a teacher.

The book covers the full open position including accidentals, and rhythms up to semi-quavers, ties and dotted crotchets.

Ink to String is available as an A4 sized, physical book (soft cover) which opens flat on a music stand. The backing tracks are downloads for which the link is provided upon purchase of the book.
